The Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research Team (SMART) announced that their 5th Annual SMART Celebration, presented by the Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282, will be held on Saturday, August 3rd from 1:00-6:00pm at First Niagara Center.
The SMART organization’s sole purpose is to raise awareness and financial support for research aimed at finding treatments and ultimately cures for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and related neuromuscular diseases. SMA kids are living longer, more fruitful lives because of the progress made by scientists and physicians around the world, including those at Johns-Hopkins Medical Center - direct benefactors of SMART funding.
The SMART Celebration is a day of great family fun. For just $25 per person or $50 per household, enjoy canned beer, soft drinks, hot dogs, pizza, snacks, South Buffalo chicken wing table, incredible raffle prizes and our signature Kid Zone, which includes multiple inflatable rides, floor hockey on the First Niagara Center floor, 9 hole mini golf course, bubble hockey, crafts, snow cones, cotton candy, prize wheel and more.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by clicking here. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door the day of the event.

About Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
Spinal Muscular Atrophy, or SMA, is the #1 genetic cause of death amongst children less than 2 years old, affecting nearly 1 in 6,000 new births. Approximately 1 in 35 people carry a copy of the gene that causes SMA. Given the incredibly tough road that SMA patients and their families experience, the most common reaction is ‘Are any treatments available?’ While the answer is currently ‘no’, there is significant reason for hope, as SMA has been singled out as the genetic disease closest to treatment.
